This week we have asked our neighbors to donate their secondhand books. It was quite difficult because we have to go one house by one house and ring their doorbell. Looks like a little bit of old fashioned salesman in 2000s but it was worth it because we really collected some books from helpful neighbors.
These were the books collected from those neighbors. A lot of them are also still in good conditions. And a lot of interesting story books and comics. We really hope what we have been busying these few weeks can really bring joy to the children.
It is finally our Hari Raya holiday. This week has nothing much for Book Group to do because we already completed our brochures handing out procedure.
All we can do is just keep promoting our book donating event and keep asking books from people we know. During this holiday, it will be a good chance for us to do so because a lot of us has finally got a chance to go back to hometown.
Unfortunately, a lot of us didn’t ask a lot of books because we already asked them before and a lot of books has already been donated to orphanage by our friends and relatives. We will keep trying to promote this event.
This is a busy week because next whole week will be our Hari Raya break. Other then design module we need to busy with, we also need to finalize a lot of things in CSI so that the progress will be smooth after the holiday.
Another good news is another lecturer of ours, Ms Sharmila also helped us by giving us her nephew and niece’s books. She saw our Instagram Story and offer to help us. When we went to collect from her at her office, we were very surprised because the books were super heavy and Ms carried them all to her office on that morning all by herself. We really appreciate her help.
After filtering the books given by her, we also found out all of the books are still in good conditions. Seems like her niece and nephew really know how to take good care of their things. All of the books are very educational and very interesting. We really hope the kids will like them.
This week we have our final printed brochures ready to be handed out.
We need to hand out all of these to our friends and also students and lecturers all around in campus.
We also approached the auntie selling foods in Block D. She was very happy to help us and said she got some secondhand books to give us.
We put up the poster at the entrance of SLC and put a box there too so that whoever wants to donate can just put the books directly inside the box. We will go back to check the box everyday.
This week we had our presentation for all groups with Mr Edwin. We need to present our group’s progress.
Mr Edwin gave comments to each group about our progress and what should we do the next steps.
He was quite satisfied with our progress and told us some instructions to do for the following week.
This week we also tried to asked friends and relatives around us for book donations but not much of lucks. So we have to figure out our next plan to collect more books. We will try to ask our juniors in BIA and also brochure will be handed out next week.
This is the week after we came back from Cambodia. So a lot of things have to catch up. We had our meeting with Mr Edwin to talk about each group’s progress.
Now our group of books need to do some amendments regarding our posters for books donation.
Kimberly also helped us to print out the brochures for books donation but it was too small to see so it was rejected.
This is the final version we amended according to Mr Edwin’s instructions.
Overall it was ok for all groups’ progress this week.
Mr Edwin also showed us some example of our final reports done by our seniors. So we have some directions/
This is the week me and other classmates went to Cambodia. Because of the busy schedule and poor internet connection so I was unable to keep updating my CSI progress.
It was a presentation week for us, including Community Service Initiative. We have to talk about what we have done so far in our presentation to show our progress to the whole class and our lecturers.
So for our group, which is Books/Magazine, we just only need to show that we have produced poster and brochure for the books donating event. Those posters will be glued onto some walls in some corners inside campus for collecting secondhand books from people that are willing to help.
We also showed our collected books from Ms Aida. We have some good progress but we still need to do more.

We got some great news from Ms Sharmila and Ms Aida. They saw the Instagram story from Zee Leng and offered to give us some second hand books. At first we thought maybe just few books that were used by their kids. But when we meet in person, there were a lot of bags full of books in different categories. Those books even require 5 of us to carry from their car to our studio.
Some of them are quite new and in good quality. The category is also suitable for the kids from the village. We feel satisfied when we saw there are still people out there that are very willing to help them.
After knowing that I need to find books for the donation, I tried to start from my family and friends.
But because of the language and genre, all of the books from my house can’t be donated. And since I have graduated from high school many years ago so I have already given out all of my secondhand SPM reference books.
I tried to ask my relatives and friends too but it was quite difficult because their age are similar with me too. I have to find another way or just keep finding the chance to collect some books for the kids. It takes some time but after all, it’s all for a good deed and to let the children from the village to have some better resources.
